How to Choose the Perfect Wardrobe for Your Brand Photoshoot
As a small business owner or entrepreneur, your brand photos are a wonderful opportunity to make an impactful first impression on your audience.
The right wardrobe can elevate your brand images. You want to follow a few guidelines to make sure your outfits are in alignment with the message you’re trying to convey with your photographs. And, of course, know which clothes will make you look your best on camera!😊
Define Your Brand Identity
Ask yourself, what message do I want my photos to convey? What type of brand do I have? Is it casual, professional, creative, eco-friendly, or luxurious?
What colors, textures or styles would best represent my business? For example, if you’re a corporate consultant you might want to wear a structured blazer and neutral tones to exude professionalism. However, if you’re a creative entrepreneur, you might favor bold colors and fun accessories…
Favor Colors That Complement Your Brand
Color psychology can play a role in branding and can influence how your audience perceives you. If possible include your brand colors with one of your outfit choices or with accessories, to create consistency across your website and social media.
Choose colors that complement your skin tone and make you feel confident! Jewel tones, earth tones and pastels often work well on camera.
***Solid colors photograph better than busy patterns which can be distracting***
3. Dress for Your Industry and Audience
Your clothing choices should align with your industry and appeal to your target audience. What would your ideal client expect to see from a professional in your field? For example, a financial advisor or lawyer might opt for business attire, while a wellness coach or personal trainer might choose more relaxed clothing to seem more approachable.
4. Prioritize Fit and Comfort
Clothing that doesn’t fit well can make you look less than professional, and uncomfortable outfits make it hard to relax in front of the camera.
Choose clothing that: fits well and flatters your body shape, allows you to move comfortably, and authentically feels like YOU!
If in doubt, try on your outfits ahead of time and take test photos to share with your photographer, to get some feedback.
5. Add Layers
Layers can add variety to your outfits. A blazer, sweater or scarf can change your look without you having to change the complete outfit. Statement jewelry, if appropriate, can reflect your personality. Or, minimalist jewelry for a more polished look.
Try to avoid trendy pieces that will date your photos more quickly.
6. Multiple Looks
If there’s enough time scheduled for your brand photoshoot, changing your outfit 2-3 times will provide you with more varied photos.
You could have your most professional look, a more comfortable casual look, and an at-home, day off look.
No matter what you’re wearing, showing up confidently and with good energy will help you to look your best in your photos!
